An ode to place, a Nantucket wedding on film and super8

To tell the story of Liz & Wright’s Nantucket wedding, we have to step back about a year and a half. Back to our very first phone call, where I knew in my bones in a calm, certain way, that we were a perfect match. It’s a special and important thing when there is immediate alignment from the get-go. So many of Liz & Wright’s north stars are mine too: a love of place, of bringing the people they love together, of living a life filled to the brim with experiences.

Coming from different parts of the country, with friends and family spread all over, Liz & Wright’s wedding was going to be a destination wedding regardless of where it took place. Nantucket isn’t just a backdrop for them; it’s woven into their relationship, both as memory and refuge. And when they began dreaming up their wedding weekend at The Wauwinet, they didn’t start with trends or a checklist, and instead rooted down in meaning. They wanted to gather the people they love most and offer them their version of the island: a day of driving jeeps on the beach, meals at their favorite restaurants like Bar Yoshi and The Chanticleer, pockets of unhurried time, and an intimate and swift beachfront ceremony before an epic night of dancing.

Having the week to spend alongside them, not only their wedding day, but the place and experience that hold so much of their story, was the honor of a lifetime. Nantucket is now one of my favorite places in the world, too. I shot through more rolls of film than I ever have, and even after bringing nine cameras with me on the ferry, I still found myself wishing I had packed more.
